System Requirements
(Advanced Network Specifications)
Networks
Less than 4 workstations
- Satori operates in a peer to peer mode with one of the
workstations acting as a file server. Satori uses standard Microsoft networking,
with the server/workstation sharing its folder that the Satori data is
stored in. Each workstation maps the network drive on the
server.
- This configuration recommended for medium volume offices with
4 computers or less.
More than 4 workstations or higher volume practices
- Satori operates with a file server running
NT Server 4.0,
2000 or 2003 Server. This file server can also act as a workstation if desired.
XP Home or Pro can also act as a server as the operating system has the
same type of shares and permissions as the NT environment does.
- Workstations may run Win98, Win2000, or any
XP but must have matching
workstations. All must be the same OS. You can mix and match XP
Pro and Home, and also 98 and XP, but you cannot mix 2000 and XP.
Information on this limitation is available from microsoft.
- Satori uses standard Microsoft networking, with the
server/workstation sharing its folder that the Satori data is stored in. Each
workstation maps the drive on the server. TCP/IP, NetBEUI, and IPX are supported.
100BaseT network cards and switch are recommended.
- Because larger local area networks are more complex, a
computer technician is recommended to maintain your network. Satori supports the
operation of its software on the network, but if Network difficulties arise we can only
help to diagnose the problem. This means only that you have someone local who is
familiar with your system that is an expert in microsoft networking.
System performance depends greatly on speed of
computers and the network. The more protocols you use to accommodate different
versions of operating systems on workstations, the overall performance of Satori will be
reduced. Satori is capable of running on TCP/IP alone.
